On the 8th, a forest fire that broke out in Yasan near Wolpyeong-ri, Yongju-myeon, Hapcheon County, Gyeongsangnam, was caught in about 20 hours.

The head of the Forestry Service in Nam Sung County held a briefing at the Hapcheon County Forest Fire Site Integrated Command Center on the 9th and announced that the main fire extinguishing was finished at 10 am that day.

The area affected by the forest fire (which encompasses areas affected by smoke or ash, and differs from the actual area of damage) is 163 ha, and more than 1 areas were damaged based on the area of one football field (7,140 square meters).

Fortunately, there were no casualties or casualties.

All 228 residents who had been evacuated to a nearby community center due to a fire the day before have returned home.

With the main fire extinguishing completed, all wildfire response phases have been lifted.

As a result, the command authority was also changed from the governor of Gyeongnam Province to the head of Hapcheon County.

The fire started at 214:8 p.m. on Jan. 1.

The dry advisory went into effect, drying up the land, and strong winds of up to 59 meters per second made it difficult to extinguish the fire.

A helicopter arrived at the scene about 12 minutes after receiving the report of the fire, but the flames spread so fast that more than 10ha had already burned.

However, overnight, the Forest Fire Disaster Special Fire Extinguishing Team, a specialist in extinguishing forest fires, was deployed and the wind speed weakened to 30 meters per second, which allowed them to increase the extinguishing rate.

The forest authorities mobilized 4,1 forest fire extinguishing personnel and 509 fire engines and other equipment, and by 76:6 a.m. that day, 47 helicopters were redeployed to complete the main fire extinguishing.

The cumulative number of wildfire extinguishing personnel and equipment deployed over the two days alone amounted to 33,2 and 970 vehicles, respectively.

The forest authorities plan to keep 152 helicopters and 10 forest fire extinguishing personnel at the site to continue monitoring and extinguishing the fire to prevent it from igniting and spreading again.

Forestry authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire as soon as it is extinguished.

It is known that there is a possibility of arson as this wildfire originated halfway up the mountain, not at the bottom of the mountain.

Governor Park Wan-su said, "We would like to thank the Forest Service, firefighters, police, Hapcheon Army, and all others who participated in the extinguishing of forest fires, and we will do our best to clean up the remnants of the fires and restore the affected areas."
