A man in his 50s who stalked a married woman and ran away after hitting her husband with a vehicle who reported it has been arrested and charged.

The Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office's Cheonan District Office Criminal Division 2 (Assistant Prosecutor Dong Dong-hee) announced on the 50th that it had arrested and charged Mr. A (8) with violating the Stalking Punishment Act and special injury.

As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A had been hovering around since 2020, mistakenly believing that the victim woman, Ms. B (in her 60s), had a crush on him.

According to the prosecutor's office, despite Mr. B's warning not to "come to visit him," Mr. A is accused of going to a café run by Mr. B on three occasions in September ~ October last year.

In addition, Miss A is accused of visiting the café again on October 9 last year, and when Miss B's husband, Miss C, called the police, she drove away in her lorry and struck Miss C on the shoulder, causing injuries of three weeks.

The prosecutor said, "After receiving the case from the police, we have determined the intentional intent and motive of the accused through supplementary investigations, including the investigation of the persons involved," and "we will ensure that the defendant is sentenced to a sentence commensurate with the crime."

Since the stalking retaliatory murder at Sindang Station in Seoul in September last year, the Cheonan District Office has been conducting intensive investigations, prosecuting a total of 10 people, including five stalking offenders who have been sent to the police, including Mr. A, and requesting 3 measures such as prohibition of access to the victims.

On the other hand, according to data released by the Korea Women's Telephone on 7 March, the number of women killed by "men they know," including husbands, lovers, or one-sided stalker relationships, reached at least 86 last year alone, and at least 225 survivors were attempted.

This statistic is the minimum number that collects only cases that have been reported in the media, and if you include incidents that are not known to the media, the damage is expected to be even greater.
