The situation is similar in Berlin and Brandenburg. Wednesday morning starts in both federal states initially cloudy with light frost, in the south of Brandenburg it can come to snowfall, as the German weather service announced on Wednesday morning. Especially between Fläming, Elbe-Elster district and Lower Lusatia, according to the DWD, up to five centimeters of fresh snow are expected by Wednesday morning.

In the course of the day, the snowfalls should intensify, they can spread to Berlin. According to the DWD, it can lead to temporary smoothness due to slush.

Accidents caused by snow and slippery conditions

Slippery roads and snow caused numerous accidents in Schleswig-Holstein on Wednesday morning. Especially in the northern parts of the country, an increasing number of accidents were recorded with the onset of rush hour traffic, police spokesmen said on Wednesday morning.

In the areas of Flensburg and Kiel as well as Elsmhorn and Lübeck, several cars and trucks were involved in accidents. Fortunately, only a few people were initially harmed. One person was slightly injured when she drove her car off the road near Selk (Schleswig-Flensburg district). Also, a person was slightly injured in an accident in the district of Plön and also a truck driver was slightly injured when he came off the road on the A7 northbound between Schuby and Tarp and drove into the ditch, as a spokesman for the Flensburg police said. Also in Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland is announced on Wednesday initially widespread winter weather. Up to low altitude there is often snow and slippery, in the mountains it could snow heavily, as the German weather service in Offenbach announced on Wednesday. In the course of the day it should rain partly longer. The maximum temperatures are between 5 and 10 degrees, in the Westerwald at 1 to 4 degrees. There is a moderate to fresh wind, which can be strong to stormy in gusts.

On Wednesday evening and in the night to Thursday there could be individual strong thunderstorms with gusts of wind. At night, the meteorologists expect widespread rainfall, especially in the Saarland and in the Palatinate it can come to showers.

Changeable and wintry in NRW

People in North Rhine-Westphalia also have to be prepared for changeable and sometimes wintry weather. In the morning, it will be smooth in the north and east of the country, in the southwest snow should fall, which should spread to large parts of the country by noon, as the German weather service (DWD) announced. During the day, precipitation turns into rain. The maximum temperatures are between two and five degrees, at high altitudes at zero to two degrees.
