Last year, however, a certain change could be discerned – among those who joined in 2022, 28 percent were women.

"The proportion of women connected to Stim is a reflection of the entire music industry in Sweden and internationally.

We are happy to see that the percentage of newly joined female creators is increasing, but there is still a lot to do," says Sofie Marin, director of Stim's music promotion activities, in a press release.

As for the music on the top charts, the distribution is even more skewed, only 16 of the works on the top 100 list had female authors.

That is slightly more than in 2013, when the same figure landed at 13 women.

Stim works in various ways to strengthen gender equality in the industry, including through the international project Keychange.
