Twins who witnessed the earliest births in the world. They celebrate their anniversary and enter the «Guinness»

Canadian twins who had a premature birth and had no chance of surviving celebrated her first birthday, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The girl Adia and the boy Adrial were born on the fourth of March 2022 when their mother was 22 weeks of pregnancy, breaking two records: the first for the earliest birth of twins and the second for the lowest weight at which twins are born, as Adya's weight at birth reached 330 grams, while Adrial weighed 420 grams, as stated in a statement by the encyclopedia.

The twins' parents said doctors told them the children "have no chance of survival". Mother Shakina Rajendram said: "When I started to feel contractions, the hospital to which she was transferred refused to do what it took to keep the children alive and left them to their fate.

When she was in second day of labor, doctors told the parents that if the twins were born minutes before the 22nd week of pregnancy, they would not receive the necessary care, according to Guinness. Most hospitals are usually reluctant to resuscitate infants born before the 24th to 26th week of pregnancy.

Although Shakina was suffering from severe bleeding, she said she resisted "keeping the babies inside" for a few hours as she was 21 weeks and six days pregnant. 15 minutes before midnight, the mother lost water for the fetus, and the twins were born less than two hours later and were successfully resuscitated. The twins had to stay in hospital for six months and survived several complications, including a brain hemorrhage.

The mother explained that Adia now weighed 18 times more than she did at birth. "She is a very happy child and always smiles."

Adriel had to be admitted twice to the emergency department after suffering from infections and respiratory problems, but his condition is "improving", according to his mother, who describes him as "attentive and intelligent". The previous record dates back to 2018 with twins from the US state of Iowa, born one day after the birth of Adiya and Adrial.
