Sharjah Public Libraries launched four initiatives that include various interactive activities this March, coinciding with the Month of Reading, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of reading and its role in developing various creative skills, and embodying the UAE's vision to build an enlightened society that bets on reading and exploring the world of knowledge.

The initiatives, hosted by Sharjah Public Libraries branches in Sharjah, Kalba, Wadi Al Helo and Dibba Al Hisn, target children, as well as youth and adults of all age groups, in an effort to enhance communication between libraries and the community, and spread more awareness of the importance of reading and its role in building the individual's personality and developing his creative talents.

Iman Bushleibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries, said: "We at Sharjah Public Libraries prepare every year for this occasion, which is an opportunity to deepen and disseminate knowledge, and we are keen, through the diversity of interactive activities we organize, to present a practical embodiment of the UAE's vision in adopting the encouragement of reading, and consolidating the role of the library in the life of society."

She added: "The month of reading contributes to instilling awareness of the importance of reading and the intrinsic value it represents, which summarizes the effort made by thinkers and scientists in containing knowledge and transmitting it through books to generations who bear the responsibility of building their homelands with science and enlightenment, which is achieved when reading becomes one of the daily activities established in human life."

An event organized by Sharjah Public Libraries at its headquarters in Sharjah yesterday focused on developing children's love of reading through the "Tell Me More" workshop, during which young people were trained to write and exchange letters written in ink, and send them through the mailbox using postcards that can be converted into a book divider.

As part of Sharjah Public Libraries' initiatives to celebrate the Month of Reading, Kalba Public Library is organizing tomorrow the "Reading and Sustainable Knowledge Development" Forum, which discusses the reasons for reluctance to read, and is hosted by the Kalba Literary Council, with the participation of Sheikha Al-Mutairi, Ali Obaid Al-Zaabi, and Aisha Al-Bairaq.

Today, Wadi Al Helo Public Library hosts a group of winners of reading competitions from the Eastern Province, in a dialogue workshop on the books they have read, and each participant presents his success story and the role of reading in developing his awareness and enhancing his talents.

Dibba Al Hisn Public Library is organizing a workshop entitled "Read, Understand, Summarize", which aims to train participants to focus and benefit from important information in the books they read, to come up with useful results that help them manage time effectively.
