It was the renovation of the famous Mariner's Club, its 42 floors were to stand out in the skyline of the former British colony as a symbol of a newfound pride

Hong Kong firefighters work at night at a continuous pace, hoping to tame the flames that have enveloped a skyscraper under construction, in a densely populated neighborhood known for shopping. At least 130 people were evacuated from nearby buildings, also threatened by fire.

The fire broke out on the construction site of the Mariner's Club, in the tourist and residential area of Tsim Sha Tsui: the renovation project involves - or perhaps foresaw - raising the building to 42 floors and making it a symbolic place in the skyline of the former British colony. Many floors of the building were enveloped by fire, a column of smoke and ashes rose into the sky, while a quantity of debris fell to the ground.

No injuries were reported.
