It's the rants from customers that make call center workers just as hard as
performance pressure. In 2018, an amendment to the Industrial Safety Protection Act, also known as the Emotional Workers Protection Act, came into effect, but workers are not protected.

Reporter Jung Joon-ho contributed to this report.

<Reporter> said he didn't like the
call center response, [Call Center Worker-Customer
(Credit Card Company Call Center): You're the VIP manager,

right? (Please refrain from talking back.) Oh, you're in charge of VIP, right? Don't stutter at your words and call someone else, your work is a mess.]

They also hurl profanities.

[Call Center Worker-Customer (Public Institution Call Center): This XXX, stay still. XX If you hang up, you die. You (If you keep swearing, it's hard for me to call you too) Then make me stop swearing.]

These are all calls from last year, more than four years after the Appraisal Worker Protection Act went into effect.

Call center workers say the bad customers in the "Next Drama" movie aren't a few in real life.

[Call center worker of 4 years: After hearing the shocking words, it wasn't true that resting would solve it, because I couldn't sleep, I was in psychiatric care, and I was currently on medication.]

Due to the implementation of the protection law, in the case of malicious customers, the call center blocks the call first and gives the employee who has been harassed by the customer a break, but this is still not enough.

Requests for psychological counseling are common, and you have to wait for months.

[20th year call center worker: There is a program where you can apply for a psychological counselor and control your peace of mind for an hour, but if you apply once, you have to wait half a year.]

It is pointed out that psychological counseling programs for workers should be increased, and subcontracted call centers as well as contractors responsible for performance pressures should be more actively involved in assisting victims.
