The NHK serial TV novel "Ranman", which will start broadcasting from spring this year, is a botanist from Sagawa Town, Kochi Prefecture, who is also the model for the main character. An observation event was held in Sagawa Town.

The event was organized by the town's tourism association and others to let people know the charm of plants while walking around the mountain paths that the doctor actually walked, and 14 people participated.

Mr. Noritoshi Inagaki, a former staff member of the Makino Botanical Garden and familiar with Dr. Makino's achievements, served as our guide.

Among them, a kind of fern, "Okumawarabi", is said to have been discovered and named by Dr. Makino locally, and is characterized by black hairs growing at the base.

In addition, the cinquefoil, which blooms in fields and on the banks of rice fields in early spring, is at its peak with yellow flowers that are about the size of a toe. I watched it deeply.

A man in his 60s from Kochi City, who participated, said, "I'm deeply moved to be able to walk the path that the doctor walked. I want to study more about plants using this as an opportunity."
