A 60-year-old adviser was arrested on suspicion of assault at the volleyball club of Municipal Funabashi High School in Chiba Prefecture, saying he threw a ball at the face of a club member.

Toshihiro Ishii (60), a teacher at Funabashi Municipal Funabashi High School and an adviser to the men's volleyball club, was arrested.

According to the police, it is suspected that he grabbed and pulled one member's hair and threw a ball at his face multiple times during practice at the gym last November.

At this time, the male club member had been stripped from the upper body because he made a mistake.

The police have not disclosed the approval or disapproval of the adviser, saying that it would hinder the investigation.

The men's volleyball club of Funabashi Municipal High School is known as a strong school, having won national championships, and Mr. Ishii has been an advisor since 1985.

After the arrest, Funabashi Municipal High School held a press conference, and the principal, Nobuhiko Tsuda, apologized, saying, "I am truly sorry to the students and their parents. We will try to take care of the students."
