In the astronaut selection test by JAXA = Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, two men and women, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s, were selected from a record number of 4127 people.

JAXA has been conducting astronaut selection tests since April last year, with a record 4,127 applicants.

After multiple interviews and physical fitness tests, by December last year, we were narrowed down to a total of 10 people, 8 men and 2 women.



The final selection began at the beginning of the year, and interviews and tests to determine the qualifications of astronauts were held both in Japan and overseas. .



This is the first time in 14 years that a new Japanese astronaut candidate has been selected since three astronauts including Kimiya Yui were selected in 2009.



In addition, Mr. Yui, who was the oldest successful candidate so far, was selected at the age of 39, but this time a man in his 40s was selected, and passed at an older age than Mr. Yui. This is the third person following Chiaki Mukai and Naoko Yamazaki.
