In a message shared on Instagram on Saturday February 25, 2023, Juliette Binoche returned to her very noticed rant during the Cesar ceremony.

The actress had indeed risen to respond to Jamel Debbouze, who kindly made fun of auteur cinema.

Juliette Binoche was not at all sensitive to the humor of Jamel Debbouze during the Cesar ceremony, Friday February 24, 2023 at the Olympia.

The comedian, who was among the emcees at the event, made a little joke about auteur films, implying that they didn't make entries due to the lack of action in their script .

"You haven't seen the movie!"

"I don't agree. We also make entries", then interrupted Juliette Binoche, who has always favored auteur cinema in her career. "You add ninjas Juliette, on the life of my mother we make a misfortune”, replied Jamel Debbouze.

The actress, angry, did not disassemble and replied: "You haven't seen the film."

"I do not agree to let you denigrate this cinema"

The day after the ceremony, Saturday February 25, Juliette Binoche returned to her rant during the Césars.

The actress once again attacked Jamel Debbouze.

"We can't say anything, even to the Cesars," says Juliette Binoche.

"I couldn't help but get up when Jamel was starting to sneer at auteur films," she continues. "Even with all the liberties stand-up comics can take, auteur films authors are fragile, difficult to do […] No, sorry Jamel, with all the respect and love I have for you, and you know it, I don't agree with letting you denigrate that cinema nor those who take the risk of doing it, it's too easy".

For Juliette Binoche, auteur cinema is as important as blockbusters.

"Artist cinema brings a singular, sometimes new look, different tangents, which sometimes has difficulty finding its audience, which has fewer admissions than

Asterix

,

but which also finds it. And it's good as that. So, no, no sneering. Tolerance and a little appreciation of differences," she asked in her Instagram post.

Juliette Binoche concludes this little clarification with a touch of humor, referring to the slap in the face given by Will Smith to Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony last year: "You're lucky that I'm not the sister of Will Smith!”, she launches to Jamel Debbouze who has always reacted to this spade from the actress…
