Police launched an investigation after some students who participated in a teacher skills development assessment held at a high school in Chungju, North Chungcheong, posted sexually insulting comments towards the teacher.
According to the Chungbuk Education Agency and the police on the 23rd, two high school teachers in Chungju, North Chungcheong, filed a complaint with the Chungju Police Station in December last year, claiming that they were victims of sexual harassment.
The complaint calls for "punishment of students who write comments that degrade the teacher's body and cause sexual shame and offense."
In November last year, the high school conducted an "online teacher development assessment" for students, and some students left insulting responses to teachers that caused them to be sexually shamed.
At issue were the answers to open-ended questions, which included offensive statements such as "show your ass and class" and "I hope you get hurt by this article."
The Teacher Development Assessment is conducted online and anonymously, and about 12% of students participated in the assessment.
The police recently obtained a search warrant from the court and seized and searched the Chungbuk Education Information Institute, which manages the integrated server of the Educational Administrative Information System.
The police reportedly obtained access information such as the IP of the second-year students to find the perpetrator.
A police official said, "If the suspect is identified, it is likely that he will be able to punish the crime of obscenity using communication media under the Special Act on Crimes of Sexual Violence."
The Chungbuk Provincial Office of Education has announced that it is continuing to provide counseling and necessary support to the affected teachers for their psychological stability, and plans to hold a Student Disciplinary Committee or the Teaching Rights Protection Committee to severely discipline the offending students according to the results of the police investigation.
Meanwhile, a third-year high school student who was accused of violating the Special Law on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (obscenity in the use of communication media) by making sexually harassing remarks towards a female teacher during a teacher evaluation conducted at a high school in Sejong City was expelled before graduating.
