Samsung Galaxy S23: one-off differences, but notable

It's a habit at Samsung. The Korean brand likes to divide here and there the gaps between the different versions of its smartphones. This time, it has done it again: the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra formulas have diversified technical sheets.

The differences are nevertheless remarkable, starting with the most anticipated point of comparison: the screen. The diagonal is indeed different: 6.1" for the S23, 6.6" for the S23+ and 6.8" for the Ultra version. If the definition also evolves, it is rather on the refreshment and the form that the solutions stand out. The Ultra version actually benefits from a curved panel with LTPO 2.0 technology. While the other solutions are stuck at 120 Hz, it allows you to adjust the rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. In this way, the user can save the energy of his device. Overall, the visual rendering is significantly better (and brighter) than the S22 generation.

Another breaking point: autonomy. If all three models support fast, wireless and reverse charging, you'll go from 3,900mAh on the S23 to 4,700mAh on the S23+ and 5,000mAh on the Ultra. This has an impact on weight (168 grams for the S23 vs. 233 grams for the Ultra), but allows the Ultra to last longer despite its bulky screen. Here again, the evolution in terms of endurance is clear, whatever the formula chosen, compared to previous versions.

One last gap to remember on the photo and video side. The S23 Ultra goes so far as to shoot in 8K at 30 fps, against a 4K / 60 fps for the other two versions. The S23 and S23+ are already very complete in photography, with 3 sensors, including a 50-megapixel main sensor. Their results are slightly better than with the old S22. But the S23 Ultra, with its dual telephoto lens, is the most versatile and stable of all.

On the other criteria, the data sheets of the different S23 remain substantially the same. All three devices are 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 compatible. Like the S22, they're all IP68 certified, including the S23 Ultra's curved display. It should only be noted the possibility for the latter to receive 8 or 12 GB of RAM, against a maximum of 8 GB for the S23 and S23 +. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, there is no doubt: they are all very high-end smartphones capable of satisfying several applications simultaneously, even resource intensive.
