The

Open 2023

kicks off , a CrossFit competition that brings the world together and functions as a qualifier for the

CrossFit Games

.

And it does so

for the first time from Madrid

as the venue, announcing the first high-intensity training from the Caja Mágica.

In the purest style of the Champions League draw and its drums.

But, unlike soccer, the expectation does not reside in the teams that will face each other, but in the

functional exercises

that will be included and will distribute the luck for the athletes.

This February 16 will be produced live at around nine o'clock at night this announcement that rarely leaves the

United States, the cradle of CrossFit

.

Without a doubt, it is a

recognition of the Spanish community

and its efforts for the growth of this sport.

It already has more than 600 boxes (gyms in the jargon).

It is the fifth market globally.

"For the third time in the history of CrossFit, an official event like this is held outside its borders. You have to go back to 2015 to see something similar. And the first time in Madrid, hence its importance for us", explains Francisco Ruiz

,

CEO of CrossFit Courage, one of the three boxes that have gathered the most participants for this sports festival.

His community will have the chance to train there after making himself known on 23.1, together with the

four best athletes in Europe

: Laura Horvath, Gabriela Migala, Björgvin Karl Gudmundsson and Lazar Djukic.

"It is a unique experience that positions Spain

in the world elite of CrossFit

as a power, increasingly valued by the loyalty of the athletes. In our case, we will be represented by Antonio Carrascosa", adds this entrepreneur.

His colleague Uwe Henningsmeyer, CEO of Full CrossFit, has achieved the feat of

bringing together the largest number of people

willing to compete.

At the close of this edition, a total of 366, followed by a box from Brazil with 358 and several from the United States.

"It's a job that we not only do in the month before the Open, but that we do all year," he explains.

It is not about convincing anyone, he says.

In fact, those who are in better physical condition do not even need to insist.

"But there are people with many

fears and insecurities

, who say that 'I'm not going to be able to'. However, it is the community itself that encourages them after experiencing it with emotion, "she slides.

NORMAL PEOPLE

Among those more than three hundred there is everything.

"We do not have a super athlete profile. 99% of the people who train CrossFit are normal. A minor has even signed up and there is a group we call

The Legends

of

more than 60 years

".

Because there are different versions of training, from less to more level.

RX is the one prescribed, with higher weights intended for professionals, while in scaling some movements are adapted and Adaptive brings together people with certain limitations.

Here the case is to move.

The online

competition

will last three weeks, until March.

It costs around $20.

World participants must upload their scores in the specified time, always verified by a judge with the qualification provided by CrossFit in training also online.

"A very positive climate is generated, where many

friendships

arise that go beyond CrossFit with hangouts in the mountains. Among them, they congratulate each other and shout to achieve it. You see one comment to another: 'If I have finished the training and you're stronger, you're going to be able to.' And that's what makes the Open grow like foam and every year there are more of us," says the CEO of Full CrossFit excitedly.

His intention, he admits, is not to be number one.

"The important thing is to see how this sport changes the day-to-day life of such a diverse social mass. Because those whom I call maquinotes

are

the least. The rest are looking for a while to disconnect,

take care of themselves with exercise

, improve their quality of life, constant challenges...".

He believes that the success and fashion so established in Spain is due precisely to the

more psychological part

that these high-intensity workouts imply.

"Seeing a new move like double unders come out for the first time. This is a test of your fitness

level

that we don't approach as a competition against each other, but rather connects the community and motivates them to excel."

From the Madrid City Council they advocate promoting CrossFit, explains Sofía Miranda, head councilor for the sports area: "We are proud that the commitment to new trends has made us an international reference in record time

.

"

Athletes and fans from all corners of the world will be aware of everything that happens on Thursday night in the Caja Mágica.
