The regional intervention and security teams (ERIS), nicknamed "the GIGN of prisons", had to intervene at the Beauvais prison center (Oise) on Tuesday. A dozen detainees did not want to return to their cell in the middle of the afternoon and refused the body search. A little earlier, projections of packages from the outside had been noted, reports L'Aisne Nouvelle.

"Management tried to negotiate with the inmates. Who didn't want to know. So the decision was made to call the regional intervention and security teams," explained a UFAP-UNSA Justice union delegate.

Three detainees transferred

The ERIS intervention ended shortly before 19:30 p.m. Some detainees were placed in a disciplinary unit and three, considered the ringleaders, were transferred to another prison.

Such incidents have reportedly occurred since the prison opened in 2015 due to projected parcels. They mostly contain mobile phones, narcotics, food or alcohol. Sometimes deliveries are even made by drone. The prison of Beauvais has planned to set up antennas to neutralize them.
