A skipjack pole-and-line fishing boat set sail for about nine months at Saga New Port in Kuroshio Town, which is the base for the largest skipjack fishing boats in Kochi Prefecture.

On the 16th, we went fishing on a 149-ton large fishing boat owned by a local fishery company.

Before departure, about 20 sailors from fishing boats gathered at a fishery company near Saga New Port in Kuroshio Town to hold an event called the Kammodeshiki, where they prayed for a good catch and a safe voyage with a traditional local song. Did.

After loading the ship with food and water, the sailors removed the ropes connecting the quay and the ship and left for the Pacific Ocean.

Families and locals gathered at the port, cheering the boats as they departed, saying, “I want to catch a lot of fish!”

The fishing boat will head off the coast of Kagoshima Prefecture and continue fishing until the end of November this year, chasing skipjack tuna heading north in the Pacific Ocean.

Gakutake Myojin, the head of the fishing industry, said, "Right now, I'm full of excitement. I want to catch a lot of bonito this year and come back to Kochi."
