During our tests, we went through different stages. After unpacking the helmets, we manipulated them to determine their strength as well as their overall quality. Then came the time of the fitting, in order to check the comfort and ergonomics. We followed up on a test to evaluate the audio, with a varied playlist, and by making calls to judge the sound isolation. These steps also made it possible to check the autonomy of each helmet.

Our selection of the 4 best Bluetooth headsets to choose from in 2023

  • Soundcore Life Q35: the best value for money
  • Jabra Elite 45h: the best battery life for the price
  • Sony WH-1000XM5: the best noise reduction
  • Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless: the best battery life

Soundcore Life Q35: the best value for money

SEE PRICE

This headphone with active noise cancellation (RBA) is very convincing. He managed to seduce us by isolating us perfectly during train journeys. Its sound quality is of a very good level even if it can lack precision. We would still have liked to have a little more metal in its design and more ventilated pads, the leatherette having caused a heating of the ear during its test.

The most:

  • Good sound quality
  • Highly effective active noise reduction
  • Good value for money

Cons:

  • Sound may lack accuracy
  • May cause long-term discomfort

Jabra Elite 45h: the longest battery life for its price

SEE PRICE

The Jabra Elite 45h is the solution for anyone looking for an effective headset on a budget. It offered us a pleasant audio rendering despite too much bass and a slight lack of sound precision. Its comfort is interesting, but we note that its over-ear design could not please everyone. Its autonomy is the big highlight with a record endurance of 58 hours.

The most:

  • Its record autonomy
  • Its comfort
  • Its price

The least:

  • Sound may lack accuracy

Sony WH-1000XM5: the best noise reduction

SEE PRICE

This over-ear headset is the best option if you are willing to put the price on it. It offers dynamic, detailed and highly customizable audio through its app. It supports the highest codecs (SBC, AAC, LDAC, DSEE Extreme) and has one of the best noise reductions on the market. Compared to its previous version, we have noticed that its microphones ensure better quality during calls. Its sober design is light and comfortable. Nevertheless, in our opinion, it does not maintain enough during the sport. It also has very intuitive touch controls and also has a multi-touch connection. Its autonomy is about 30 hours.

The most:

  • Very good sound quality
  • Comfortable
  • Very good noise reduction
  • Can be used in wired mode

Cons:

  • No good maintenance during sport
  • Does not fold

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless: the best battery life

SEE PRICE

This sober over-ear model offers a crisp and balanced sound as well as personalization thanks to its Smart Control application. However, the latter is not fully completed in our opinion. Its noise reduction is effective because the headphones automatically adapt to the environment in which they are located. It also has a multi-touch connection as well as touch controls. Its main highlight is its huge autonomy, up to 60 hours. Its 2 leatherette pads are very comfortable. Nevertheless, the maintenance remains insufficient for a sports practice.

The most:

  • Its autonomy
  • Its comfort
  • Very good sound quality
  • Very good noise reduction

Cons:

  • Some weaknesses in wired mode
  • No good maintenance during sport
  • Smart Control application not mature enough

Other models tested

  • Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700: This model has excellent noise reduction and is ideal for making calls thanks to its hands-free kit. However, it is primarily intended for more sedentary users.
  • Sony WH-1000XM4: It is an alternative to the XM5 and is one of the best on the market. But, it is outpaced performance level by the more recent version.
  • Apple AirPods Max: It manages to compete with the best on the market. Nevertheless it has flaws such as its weight, its lack of versatility, treble slightly lacking definition, bass lacking punch and its price.
  • Sony WH-CH710N: This headset is satisfactory in terms of performance, but fails to compete in audio rendering with its opponents.
  • Sony WH-XB910N: Despite its excellent comfort, its complete application and its good autonomy, its sound rendering would have deserved much more attention. This deprives it of any relevance vis-à-vis its competitors.
  • Bose QuietComfort 45: Despite its comfort, rich, balanced sound and effective active noise cancellation, we were disappointed. This model lacks naturalness and its application is limited.
  • Jabra Elite 85h: This headset is of excellent quality and its sound rendering is satisfactory. On the other hand, it is not suitable for large heads and lacks precision in the treble.
  • Soundcore Space Q45: It offers a very good autonomy and is very comfortable. Nevertheless, its sound rendering is not perfect but is suitable for its price as well as customization via its application.

5 key criteria for choosing your Bluetooth headset

According to our product experts, here are the key criteria to consider when choosing your Bluetooth headset.

Audio quality

  • Take a good look at the reproduction of sound frequencies. The flatter the line, the more faithful it is, and the more quality is assured
  • The human ear is sensitive to frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz

Sound insulation

  • Active noise cancellation (RBA) uses a microphone system to attenuate extraneous noise
  • The thickness and size of the pads influences the RBA
  • Hear Through mode allows you to hear ambient sounds

Comfort

  • Important criterion especially when you wear your helmet for a long time
  • Look at the material of the pads, the density of the padding and the headband
  • Circum-aural headphones that encompass the ear are more comfortable and have better sound isolation
  • Supra-aural headphones that land on the ear retain more heat

Mobility

  • It will vary according to autonomy and RBA
  • Whether or not the helmet folds up to put it in its protection

Orders
