Lothar Matthäus has bought the Ghanaian first division club Accra Lions together with two partners. The club is said to be worth around two million euros, but no information was given about the amount of Matthäu's financial contribution.

The 1990 World Cup winner shares the commitment with former player agent Oliver König from Frankfurt and Ghanaian professional footballer Frank Acheampong. There are currently four professionals with Ghanaian passports playing in the Bundesliga, compared to more than 40 in league history.
