This year, WED focuses on the need to fight against plastic pollution. It is estimated that between 19 and 23 million tons of plastic waste end up each year in lakes, rivers and seas.

More than 800 marine and coastal species are affected by this pollution by ingestion, entanglement and other hazards. For these reasons, mobilizing transformative environmental action is paramount. And, for this, it is essential to take advantage of scientific advances and technological innovations and involving all actors (administrations, private sector, citizens, etc.), each from its field.
