Sunday's presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey recorded a historic turnout of about 89%, surpassing what the world's largest democracies have achieved in recent years. Turkey's High Election Board announced that the presidential election will move to a run-off on May 28, as none of the candidates managed to pass the 50% needed to win the first round.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, candidate of the People's Alliance, won 49.51% of the votes, compared to 44.88% for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
