Tuesday's destruction of the Kakhovka Dam near the city of Kherson was presented as a blow to the military counter-offensive strategy envisaged for months. Millions of cubic meters of water poured into the adjacent Dnieper River, flooding everything in their path.

"If we wanted to cross the river at this point, it has now become impossible," said a Ukrainian officer. Moscow can take advantage of this respite to "better organize its defenses," says the Wall Street Journal.
