In Ukraine, many battles have taken place inside cities. This confirms the trend that many researchers have noticed, that armed conflicts are increasingly taking place in cities.
"In the past, people fought over cities, now you have to get into them to take a city," says Kristin Ljungkvist, senior lecturer in war studies at the Swedish Defence University.Fighting inside cities is extremely difficult and can lead to major losses for everyone involved, not least civilians. Russia is not very good at this type of combat and uses what she calls medieval methods.
