Most countries in Europe celebrate this Monday, May 8, the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II. It is the second year in a row that the anniversary has been held on the same day as the start of a new conflict in Europe.

France, Germany and Ukraine are among the countries that will mark the day with ceremonies. The UK will celebrate on April 25, the anniversary of when the Battle of the Bulge began in May 1941, when the Allies invaded the Soviet Union.
