Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has signed one of the world's strictest anti-gay laws. The law includes, among other things, the death penalty for "repeated violations" of the law.

Openly "promoting homosexuality" can lead to 20 years in prison.Same-sex marriage is already illegal in more than 30 African countries, including Uganda. Now it is feared that the new law may cause further African countries to tighten their laws.. The EU condemned the law and called on the European Commission to use both legal and financial diplomacy.
