Ennahda party leader Rached Ghannouchi was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 1,000 dinars by Tunis' Criminal Chamber specializing in terrorism cases. He was convicted in absentia of glorifying terrorism, in a case dating back to 2022, for words deemed extremist and degrading according to a police union that had filed a complaint.

The leader of the Islamist party, imprisoned, refuses to attend new hearings, each summons of justice, considering that he does not have the right to a fair trial and that the prosecution against him is "politically motivated"
