Wreckage of Japanese cargo ship, the Montevideo Maru, has been found in the South China Sea. The ship went down in July 1942 with more than 900 Australians onboard.

For 81 years, the shipwreck lay at the bottom of the water without being located. The Silentworld Foundation, an underwater archaeology society, took five years to plan his expedition to find the ship. The foundation estimates that about 1,060 people of about fifteen nationalities died, including 210 civilians.
