A Tokyo court sentenced this Friday, April 21, the former president of a Japanese company sponsor of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and two employees to suspended prison sentences. Former Aoki Holdings chairman Hironori Aoki, 84, was given a 30-month suspended sentence.

He was found guilty of paying bribes to ensure his company, a Japanese chain of business costume stores, become an official partner of the 2020 Olympics. Other arrests on similar grievances have taken place in recent months, such as those of the then-chairman of major Japanese publishing company Kadokawa.
