U.S. needs a strategy to provide uranium that would not make the country dependent on Russia, says Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

Granholm said this during a hearing in the Senate Committee on Armed Services. She was asked whether the United States has the same capabilities as Russia and China in the field of "reprocessing nuclear fuel", including plutonium. Last May, the US Department of Energy had created a team to develop a uranium strategy that would help find ways to refuse to purchase uranium from Russia.
