[HIGHLIGHTS] The protesting bishop Jacques Gaillot died at the age of 87

Bishop of Evreux for 13 years (1982-1995), the Vatican had withdrawn his office in January 1995, because of his non-Orthodox positions within the Church. "He died peaceful, serene, surrounded by his loved ones," said a relative.

Bishop Gaillot was born on September 11, 1935 in Saint-Dizier in Haute-Marne, the son of wine merchants. He had a degree in theology and graduated from the Institute of Liturgy, and was ordained a priest in March 1961.
