The European Union has refused to send a representative to Israel's "Europe Day" ceremony. Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is expected to give a speech at the event.

The European Union said it does not support Ben Gvir's views on the issue. The event is to commemorate the formation of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1950. It will take place in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, May 9, the anniversary of the founding of the E.U. and the creation of Israel.
