Germany had applied to Switzerland for the delivery of decommissioned Leopard II tanks. The Federal Council there is now in favour of a resale to manufacturer Rheinmetall.

The Germans expressly assured that the tanks would not be sent to Ukraine. A decision is expected to be made in the summer session, which begins on May 30. The Swiss army emphasized that its own six battalions were not fully equipped with battle tanks, which would require an additional 34 Leopard IIs. It is therefore being examined whether further models can be reactivated and others used for training purposes and as spare parts warehouses.
