Sweden's population is expected to increase by 400,000 by 2030. Population growth is due to 300,000 more immigrants than emigrants.

A larger proportion of the population is also expected to be aged 80 or over. The Tidö agreement may affect the population forecast in the long term, says a demographer at Statistics Sweden. In the short term, the forecast is based on the assumption that the behaviours, trends, rules and general conditions that exist today will remain the same in the future.
