Emissions from the Swedish economy have decreased by 1.5 million tonnes between 2021 and 2022. This is despite the fact that 2021 was a year when some of the effects of the pandemic on the economy remained.

It is mainly in road transport and industry that emissions are decreasing, but increased air travel leads to increased emissions. The government has proposed a sharp reduction in the reduction obligation, from January 2024, which, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, will increase emissions from the transport sector.
