SVT has for the first time chosen to stop a publication with reference to the new law on foreign espionage. It is about map images from the Pentagon leak that would show vulnerabilities in the Ukrainian energy supply.
SVT wanted to publish the pictures to explain what the leak was about. But this will not be the case. The law has introduced a special exemption from criminal liability if the act had a journalistic or opinion-forming purpose. This is so that the law will hit spies and not journalists.
