Since May 5, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, and the China Coast Guard have launched a six-month special operation to crack down on illegal and criminal mining of sea sand. According to statistics, from 2018 to 2022, the procuratorial organs of 11 coastal provinces and cities prosecuted more than 680 cases and more than 1800,2022 people in the crime of illegal sea sand mining.

Some criminals deliberately shut down or steal other vessels' automatic identification systems to hide ship trajectories or illegally modify ships.
