Pro-Crown nationalists in Northern Ireland have been dealt a heavy blow after being unable to lead in the country's local elections. Pro-secessionist Sinn Féin party topped the election for the second time in a row in a historic first.

Northern Ireland is in a state of political instability mainly caused by Brexit, as nationalists are still dissatisfied with the outcome of negotiations between the EU and the British government. The recent election showed that the mood was leaning more towards the idea of unifying Ireland and moving away from the United Kingdom.
