The Arab League decided, at an extraordinary ministerial meeting on Sudan, to create a "contact group" to achieve a ceasefire. The contact group will be composed of representatives of Egypt and Saudi Arabia as well as the Secretary-General of the League.

A choice dictated by the fact that Egypt is on the front line because of the deteriorating situation in Sudan. It has already taken in more than 40,000 refugees and fears that insecurity could return to Egypt via armed groups. Saudi Arabia is already hosting representatives of both sides of the Sudanese conflict to try to find a lasting ceasefire if not a solution.
