In Sudan, fighting between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan's armed forces and General Hemedti's Rapid Support Forces continues on May 1, 2023, despite a new ceasefire. Faced with a deteriorating situation in the country, the UN announced the immediate dispatch of its head for humanitarian affairs, Martin Griffiths.

Griffiths is currently in Kenya to meet with the authorities to see how to deliver aid, as fighting persists and Khartoum airport is closed. The UN humanitarian chief is due to visit Sudan to "see how we can bring immediate relief to those impacted"
