Armed clashes took place between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the Sports City area, south of the capital Khartoum. Roads leading to the presidential palace were blocked by army heavy armoured vehicles, Al Jazeera correspondent said.
The correspondent pointed to a state of panic and the mass flight of citizens from central Khartsoum following clashes. The city of Meroe in northern Sudan is witnessing clashes, according to eyewitnesses. The armed forces also said they took control of the RSF camp in Merowe.
