The fifth truce between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces came into effect on Friday. African and international moves continued in an attempt to de-escalate and convince the parties to the conflict to sit at the negotiating table.

The UN alluded to "distributing weapons to civilians" in Darfur. The Darfur Bar Association reported the appearance of fighters equipped with machine guns, RPGs and anti-aircraft missiles in the city of El Geneina. The Sudanese Medical Syndicate said there were "widespread looting and burning operations that affected markets, government and health facilities"
