U.S. fears losing control over the Ukrainian command, writes columnist Mark Galeotti in an article for the Spectator.

The reluctance of the West to supply Ukraine with certain types of weapons is partly due to attempts to limit Kiev's ability to strike, for example, in the Crimea, the author notes. The American authorities are concerned about the ambitions of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, writes Galeotti. The Washington Post reported that the Ukrainian authorities in February were developing plans to attack Moscow.
