This spring 2023 is exceptionally hot and forcing municipalities to take action. On average, temperatures will be between 10°C and 15°C higher in Spain compared to seasonal norms.

In Madrid, the authorities plan to change school hours so that students suffer less from the heat. Barcelona is increasing its climate shelters for fragile people – especially the elderly – and the cities of Cadiz or Almeria limit working hours to the morning. The government has released more than one billion euros to help Spain's 820,000 farmers.
