At least 115 primary and middle schools in Belgrade were hit by bomb threats on Wednesday 17 May. Classes have been suspended and demining services are inspecting the establishments.

This wave of alerts comes two weeks after two massacres committed in the country. Many suspect a link between the massacres and these bomb threats, especially since the polarization of Serbian society has burst into the open. In particular, demonstrations against violence, organized by the opposition, are gaining momentum. The protesters accuse the government and some media outlets that support it of having fostered a climate of violence.
