Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has requested SEK 4 billion for the next few years. In the spring amending budget, the Government gave an extra SEK 40 million to the appropriation for the protection of valuable nature.
This is because there is a great interest from forest owners to set aside forest for nature reserves in return for compensation. In Jämtland County alone, some 50 landowners have registered their interest with the County Administrative Board. But the appropriation also decreased between 2022 and 2023 by SEK 500 million.
