The Sweden Democrats are not impressed with the proposal on language requirements for permanent residence permits that was submitted to the government on Monday. "If you intend to live in Sweden permanently, you should probably learn Swedish a little better than that," says Ludvig Aspling (SD), migration policy spokesperson.

The language level set is "A2" according to the European Framework of Reference CEFR, which corresponds to step two at beginner level. On Monday, it was announced that it may take until July 1, 2027 before the knowledge requirements for temporary residence permits become a reality.
