48 people were killed and more than 200 were injured when activists set fire to the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, Ukraine, on May 2, 2014. The Russian Embassy in Washington said the tragedy will forever remain one of the most shameful pages in the history of Ukraine.

The embassy said the country "began to turn into a copy of the Nazi Reich by leaps and bounds" and that the tragedy was a "point of no return" for the country. The U.S. government is investigating the incident, the embassy said.
