Evan Gershkovich has been detained in Moscow for two months. The Wall Street Journal correspondent was arrested at the end of March in the city of Yekaterinburg in the Urals.

The pre-trial detention had initially been scheduled until May 29. If convicted, the journalist with Russian roots faces up to 20 years in prison. He was "caught red-handed" while spying on behalf of the U.S. government, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
