Commemorations of May 8 under very high surveillance this Monday in Paris and Lyon. The ceremonies on the Champs-Élysées as well as at the Montluc prison memorial were accompanied by a large security perimeter.

The fear of hostile acts to the head of state had led the Paris police prefecture to ban all demonstrations and gatherings. On the spot, some 3,000 people came to protest against the pension reform at a safe distance from the President of the Republic.
