The French and Greek transport deputy ministers, Clément Beaune and Giorgos Gerapetritis, signed Monday in Athens a railway cooperation agreement to improve Greek railways. The agreement aims at "the regular reassessment" of railway operating systems, "the application of international practices" in terms of safety and the "transfer of know-how" in order to "improve" Greek railways, the Greek minister stressed.

On 28 February, a passenger and one freight train collided head-on in Tempé, killing 57 people.
